EIDX Combined Conference Minutes
Santa Cruz, CA – Hosted by Sun Microsystems
February 12-16, 2001

EIDX Opening Session

Monday, February 12, 2001
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Santa Cruz, CA

 1. Call To Order

Dave Weyer called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM. A motion was made and seconded to accept the Minutes from the previous conference. Mr. Weyer addressed the general attendance. He welcomed the first timers and returnees. He introduced the EIDX Board and the Program Coordinators, Kim Albera and Tammy Borgens.

 2. Host & Keynote Address

Mr. Weyer introduced the conference hostess, Michelle Irwin of Sun Microsystems. Michelle announced the social events taking place during the week – the Monday Newcomers Welcome taking place that evening, the Wine Tasting, Dinner and Comedy Show taking place Tuesday evening for the Quarterly Dinner, and the 5K Run on Wednesday morning. Sun had provided some nice items to raffle off to the attendees and the first name was picked. Michelle announced that the keynote speaker, Jim Decker from her company would present tomorrow, Tuesday at 9 AM, rather than this afternoon due to the snow and bad weather.

3. 5K Run, Walk or Crawl

Dave Weyer announced that Bob Kokko was the winner of knowing what "SUN" stood for (Stanford University Network). He received a free dinner. Dave then asked Bob to tell the group about the 5K Event taking place Wednesday at 6:30 AM. Bob showed the shirts dnated by CompTIA and suggested that people buy the shirt for $15, which would be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

4. Certificates

Dave Weyer passed out Certificates of Recognition for the great job done by the many volunteers for their work during the Year 2000 on behalf of EIDX and CompTIA.

5. Theme

Bill French addressed the group to announce the Theme – "Emerging e-Business Methods and Models". The guest speakers included Dave Hollander of Contivo, co-creator of XML, Peter Kacandes of Sun Microsystems, Thy Nguyen (Cisco) and Catherine Carey (Motorola) on eHub, and Roger Trout of Sterling Commerce.

 6. Dues & Bylaws

Ken Broz made a short presentation, especially to benefit the new members, by explaining the benefits of membership and the cost of dues. He explained that dues are $2000/year. This allows a company to send as many employees as they like without incurring additional registration fees. Without membership, a conference registration fee of $550 will apply per person. A company can attend one meeting free to evaluate the organization. He showed a listing of the paid members. Second invoices will be sent out the beginning of March.

Dave Weyer informed the membership that the bylaws had been reviewed and modified. They would be posted to the web site to be viewed and voted upon for acceptance.

7. Subcommittees

Brett Carter presented for Promotion & Education, Chuck Caveney for Business Process, Stephenie Cooper for Guidelines & Standards, and Bill French for Technology. Each explained the function of their subcommittee and the sessions that were planned for the rest of the week.

8. New Members & Hosting

Kim Albera announced two new members – Jiff Mick of Converge, and EDIFICE – a sister organization in Europe. She announced Joyce Fox was hosting on behalf of Compaq and that we were still in need of a host for August. She explained the benefits of hosting and asked the members to feel free to contact her for more information.

9. Partners in the Supply Chain

Dave Weyer asked Stephenie Cooper to show a short presentation on Partners in the Supply Chain, the Infrastructure: Movement of Data, Solution Providers, and Exchanges & Marketplaces. He then asked each member in the audience the name of their company, what and where they were within the infrastructure and charted the results.

10. Closing and Adjournment

In closing, Dave Weyer presented Michelle Irwin of Sun Microsystems with an EIDX Plaque in appreciation for hosting. The meeting adjourned at 3:00 PM.
