EIDX Opening Session

Monday, May 6, 2002
1:00 – 3:00 PM
San Jose, CA

1.       Call To Order

Dave Weyer called the meeting to order at 1:00 PM.  A motion was made and seconded to accept the Minutes from the previous conference.  Dave welcomed the 1st time attendees and explained how to get involved.  He welcomed the members of JRUG, RUNE, and BARD and mentioned that this was the 4th Joint Meeting.  He introduced the EIDX Board, Dave Sommer as the Keynote Speaker, the Program Coordinators, Kim Albera and Tammy Borgens and then Bob Sartor read the CompTIA Anti-Trust Statement. 

2.       Logistics and 5K Run

Dave asked Kim to talk about the logistics and events planned for the week.  Kim pointed out the names and locations of the conference rooms and where the registration desk would be for the week.  The Monday and Tuesday networking events, food served and where they’d be held; where people could get lunch; and where restrooms, phones, and the message board was located.  Dave introduced Bob Kokko who ran the Boston Marathon for the 2nd time.  He talked about the 5K Run planned for Wednesday.  Bob invited everyone to participate, instructed them where to meet and where the run would be. 

3.       Subcommittee Chairs

Each of the acting Chairs addressed the group to talk about their respective subcommittees.  Roger Trout presented for Promotion & Education.  Linda Zavecz presented for Guidelines & Standards.  Stephenie Cooper presented for Business Processes.  Bill French for Technology, and Chuck Caveney for the RosettaNet User Groups.  Each explained the function of their committee and the sessions that were planned for the rest of the week. 

4.       Theme

Leslie Mullens addressed the group as Theme Coordinator.  The theme is “Partner Implementation:  From Qualification to Production”.  On Tuesday Pam Webber/Arrow Electronics begins with “Entering the Fray:  Defining your B2B Strategy & Implementation Roadmap”.  Greg Olsen/Contivo along with Leslie will speak on the “Top 10 Implementation Gotchas – Lessons Learned”.  Wednesday has David Cope/Bizgenics speaking on “Partner Enablement:  The Shift from More to Better”.  Peter Harter/Securify will address “System Security”, and Andy Keates/Intel will speak on “Productizing Implementation:  Partner Qualification & Readiness”. 

5.       Hosting

There is no host yet for the August Conference.  IBM, Microsoft, Seagate, and Texas Instruments are all looking into it.  If CompTIA-EIDX hosts, it is tentatively scheduled for the week of August 5th probably in the San Diego area. Kim Albera addressed the group and gave a short presentation on the benefits of hosting.  She encouraged anyone interested in hosting to speak to her and that she would be glad to handle any/all arrangements. 

6.       Keynote

Dave Sommer, CompTIA’s Director of eCommerce gave the keynote speech.  He asked the group to break into smaller groups of 5-6 people and tasked them with identifying eCommerce issues and possible solutions.  

7.       Closing and Adjournment

In closing, Dave Weyer announced that conference details for August would be coming soon and thanked the group for attending.  The meeting adjourned at 3:00 PM.
