Narrative (see also Graphic):

Step Description
1. Supplier generates schedule of planned replenishment resulting from netting out of buyer's Supplier-Managed Inventory (SMI) data.
2. Buyer receives Replenishment Schedule sent by Supplier and validates the plan against its own data.
3. If needed, buyer sends back a response to the Replenishment Schedule.   Generally, a response is sent if buyer's evaluation of the data indicates that a potential problem may exist with the Replenishment plan, such as a potential for violation of target minimum and maximum inventory levels.
4. If a response to Replenishment Schedule is received, supplier evaluates the response.  Adjustments may be made to the current iteration of the Replenishment Schedule, or partners may agree to wait for the next iteration of the process, especially if the next iteration is going to be so soon that adjustment of the current schedule is not cost-effective.
